Taxes are set as rates (one percentage, for example 5% VAT) and groups (several rates added together, for example state + city sales tax). Each product gets a rate or a group.

Add a rate

Settings → Tax rates → Add: a name (“Texas state”) and a percentage. Repeat for each rate.

Add a group

Settings → Tax groups → Add: a name (“Houston combined”) and the rates it contains.

United States

Prices are normally shown before tax. Create your state rate and your local rate, combine them into a group for your address, and set products to Exclusive of tax. Exempt items get a zero rate. We do not file or remit sales tax.

United Arab Emirates

VAT is 5% and prices shown to customers should include it. Create a 5% rate, set products to Inclusive, and add your TRN to the invoice layout.

Pakistan

Goods carry federal sales tax; services carry provincial sales tax (Sindh, Punjab or Islamabad). Create each rate you need and set products to Exclusive if you show prices before tax.

Inline or invoice tax

Show tax per line, or once at the bottom of the invoice, under the invoice layout settings.
